aterpillar has introduced the
Cat 395 Long Reach Excavator (LRE), a powerhouse machine engineered for high-performance dredging, ditch cleaning, and canal maintenance. With its impressive reach and digging capabilities, the
395 LRE firmly secures its place in the
super long reach category.
With a
maximum digging depth of nearly 22 meters and a
ground-level reach extending up to 28 meters, the 395 LRE offers operators the advantage of a highly specialized boom and stick configuration while maintaining the raw power of the standard Cat 395.
According to
Caterpillar senior product and sales consultant Vincent Migeotte, the 395 LRE isn’t just a standalone model—it’s also available as a
retrofit kit for any existing 395 excavator, allowing operators to expand their machine’s capabilities while retaining the benefits of
Caterpillar’s renowned fuel efficiency, speed, and power.
“The kit fully integrates with the standard machine, transforming it into a
specialized long-reach excavator that excels in distance-based excavation projects,” Migeotte explained.
Key Features of the Cat 395 LRE Kit
The aftermarket
395 LRE kit includes:
- A 15.5-meter boom and an 11.8-meter stick, allowing for extensive reach.
- A CV linkage, specifically designed for optimized movement and control.
- Boom cylinders, which come as part of the package.
- Customizable buckets, with capacities of up to 2 cubic meters depending on material density.
Recognizing the
395 LRE’s applications in underwater excavation, Caterpillar has ensured that
sensor boxes are waterproofed, making them fully compatible with
Cat’s next-generation excavation technologies. These include:
- Cat Payload Management System, which enhances operational efficiency.
- Cat 2D Grade Control System, which improves digging precision.
- Cat 2D E-Fence, which allows operators to set safe work boundaries, reducing risks and preventing machine damage.
Safety, Visibility, and Stability Enhancements
Caterpillar places a strong emphasis on
operator safety and site productivity, equipping the
395 LRE with:
- Additional handrails for safer entry and exit.
- Standard rear and side-view cameras, with an optional 360-degree visibility system for maximum situational awareness.
In terms of structural improvements, the
395 LRE features an upgraded
undercarriage that includes:
- A 1.33-meter car body extension, enhancing stability.
- An 85mm increase in ground clearance, allowing for smoother terrain handling.
- A 24cm boost in cab height, giving operators improved visibility.
To
balance the extended reach and added components, Caterpillar has also
increased the counterweight mass by nearly 40% to 21.5 metric tonnes. Despite this adjustment, the machine maintains its
original tail ratio, ensuring stability without compromising maneuverability.
A Smarter Investment for Long-Reach Applications
Caterpillar has designed the
395 LRE to deliver
low ownership costs, minimal fuel consumption, and reduced maintenance needs, making it an attractive option for businesses focused on efficiency and return on investment.
With
enhanced performance, industry-leading safety features, and cutting-edge technology integration, the
Cat 395 LRE is built to handle
complex dredging, canal maintenance, and deep excavation projects with ease.
